About The Guest List By Lucy Foley

“I loved this book. It gave me the same waves of happiness I get from curling up with a classic Christie...The alternating points of view keep you guessing, and guessing wrong.” — Alex Michaelides, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient

"Evok[es] the great Agatha Christie classics…Pay close attention to seemingly throwaway details about the characters’ pasts. They are all clues.” -- New York Times Book Review

A wedding celebration turns dark and deadly in this deliciously wicked and atmospheric thriller reminiscent of Agatha Christie from the New York Times bestselling author of The Hunting Party.

The bride – The plus one – The best man – The wedding planner  – The bridesmaid – The body

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.

And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

Good book

A slow read that finally gets resolved by use of wayyy too many coincidences.... Totally see Armie Hammer cast as the title role if this gets turned into a movie

Entertaining from the very start.

The story line had you guessing everyone! Really enjoyed this read and finished it less than a week

Very descriptive writing with a weak story. Disappointed.

There was a good amount of suspense

I don’t believe this book to be all the hype everyone claims it to be. I could guess what could happen mid-way through the book.

Saw so many rave reviews about this book. Read it in less than an hour because of skimming through so many of the characters point of view. Needless to say, very disappointed.

Totally unrealistic but really enjoyable and lots of coincidences that could never happen IRL tied up neatly. Beautiful setting, well developed characters, good dialogue and well paced plot. Recommend!

Could not put this book down!

Well it did keep me hooked for sure,I only have a few hours to read each day and managed to have this book read in three days,I love page turners! It is however an unlikely storyline and a bit rushed. I love that I could actually imagine what the author describes almost as if your seeing it yourself. I would recommend this book but it’s definitely not a favorite.

Aoife is pronounced “ee-fuh”. That’s the most interesting mystery in this book.

I’m not sure how to write to the editor but the Apple book edition has a misspelling of Conor McGregor’s name. Just thought I would bring it to someone’s attention if someone hasn’t already.

Every page intrigued me and I finished this in under 24 hours. I love books with different perspectives so it had me hooked almost immediately. A must read!!!!!

Very boring and unrealistic storyline.

This book moves back and forth as it tells the story through the perspective of various characters over the course of 2 days. The story builds to an unlikely conclusion keeping the reader captivated as each character develops. An interesting writing style and good read!

I finished this book in a day. It’s a page-turner to be sure. The style and different perspectives worked well. My only problem is the ending. Everything else was paced so perfectly until the ending which was rushed to the point of confusion. I kept scrolling over thinking there had to be more, but unfortunately there’s wasn’t. I do love endings that don’t tie everything up in a nice bow and this certainly fits that bill. However, after all the build up the ending felt flat and mostly unresolved.

So ridiculous and completely unrealistic!

Kept me guessing until the end

The book was great, but the ending was terrible. Absolutely no closure. To have so many point of views through out the book and then none of them tie together is so disappointing. It’s like, putting puzzle pieces together into their spots and then never connecting them.

I like reading books with bad review - they are always the best ones! This kept me captivated throughout the entire book. Plot twists had me actually reading with my mouth hanging open. The ending was NOT expected at all. Great read.

This book is marketed as a murder mystery? But that’s about 10% of the book? It’s mostly just hours of the author trying to sound like Hemingway by saying things like “the groomsmen held their torches like soldiers brandishing swords”. Overkill of metaphors and descriptive language that is so boring. Mostly this is hours of characters going on and on and mundane boring thoughts and details. I don’t care that Hannah’s room at the castle is twice as big as her room and home and that there is also an ice bucket in the room with expensive white wine and there’s also two glass sitting by it oh and there’s a chandelier just doesn’t work in a murder mystery. Get the the point! It never does!

Overall is ok Keeps you into the island Predictable the rich people and score 5 because keep me reading

An awesome awesome read… too many twists and turns throughout the whole book ... a crazy twist at the very end that you’ll never see coming… A very unique style of storytelling… It is a must read for sure. Enjoy 😀

Just don’t.

Great summer read that will have you on the edge of your seat before the book goes from 0-60 in a matter of a few chapters. Very clever, fun and entertaining book!

Great summer read and a good mystery.

Nice writing style falls prey to the author’s own love of her own contrived plot. Jumping back and forth in time and character voice is supposed to build suspense. Instead, it just builds annoyance. Topping it off, everything is someone else’s fault. The theme of personal responsibility is as dead here as increasingly in real life. All around: disappointing.

Really liked the style it was written in. Different character points of view. Flashing between past and present. The story was engaging and the book was fast paced. The reason for only three stars is it was very easy to figure this mystery out. After the synopsis sold me on how I would think I had it all figured out only to be wrong. So, if you love mysteries and you’re expecting to be shocked and surprised this time, don’t be. It would make a good movie!

Kept me on my toes and was really a great read!

It’s a book that you won’t be able to put down once you start. A must read!

Remarkable intuitiveness. Fast paced, however, too early telegraphing of the villain. Despite such, like Agatha Christie or the game of Clue, which one would have stopped the monster. Well done. Five stars.

This book was a great read. I did not find it predictable whatsoever and it kept me interested the whole time

I thought the end of this book was impossible to put down. The beginning was a bit slow. Overall I enjoyed it.

Started off a little slow, but the twisted plot is quite mesmerizing. Good visual imagery. Reminiscent of “Girl on a Train” style, so if you liked that, you’ll enjoy this book.

Thrilling. Twists and turns. Wonderfully written.

A house, full of lies, a groom, full of chills, a bride, full of wisdom..and guests. Full of hate. You may think it as a thriller, it is, that’s fair. But I think it as a most... peculiar...GAME. It’s all to simple. It’s not who you suspect the least..nor whom you suspect the most. Look for details. In between the lines. But..maybe...instead of just a killing...justice is also done. Maybe, someone could finally rest. Or, maybe...there still out there. Seeking goals. play.

The ending shocked me

Hello, just here to say if you’re reading the reviews to figure out of the book if for you some jerk used their review to spoil the end. Avoid review by user kaykaybean13.

I could not put this book down! It kept my beyond interested from start to finish with all its’ twists and turns. Love how it all fit together in the end!

It takes a lot to engage me in a book. I was an acquisitions editor for a publishing house. If a manuscript didn’t grab me in the first sentence, it usually wouldn’t interest me past the first page, much less to the end. I lasted to the end. I could be a little nit picky, but I won’t. I wasn’t her editor. I really enjoyed the book, from the first line all the way to the end. Well done. You got me!

This book was a page turner, but it felt much lighter than most thrillers/mysteries. Well written yet also soap opera-ish with dramatic chapter endings and little action and few answers until the very end.

I have no idea how this book got any good reviews. The book is around 350 pages and the ‘murder mystery’ dialogue comes at around page 250 of the book. It builds up so much to the actual wedding and climax of the plot - the first 250 pages are so incredibly boring. The conversations and history of the characters feel so meaningless. The syntax is incredibly dry and basic. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. The only reason I kept on reading is because I was waiting and waiting for any exciting part in the plot to start. I couldn’t even finish the book because I felt like I was wasting my time. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

I loved the sample and had to see what happened next...and let’s just say I was not ready for that plot twist. Definitely recommend, it’s a fun ride. The writing is super descriptive and not overbearing. I enjoyed.

Interesting to start and a crescendo finish. It almost feels incomplete but a thrill nonetheless.

I loved it! Even though it’s a lot I loved it ( reading everyone else reviews made me happy and sad)

This was possibly the worst book I have read in the last 10 years.

I really love this book its so beautifully written!💖💖

Wow! What a waste of time. I couldn’t wait until it ended and I was totally underwhelmed.

Well written and suspenseful.
